Josh Karkosh
LPC-A
Josh Karkosh is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) with Unmoored Counseling. He holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. For over 10 years, Josh has worked to guide people to become the best version of themselves.
Josh began his career in mental health, working with a non-profit organization where he collaborated with people with intellectual disabilities to make advances on their personal goals and daily functioning. After completing an undergraduate degree in Social Work at the University of Northern Iowa, Josh became a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor, where he worked with dual diagnosis clients on overcoming addictions, managing mental health symptoms and other related life-barriers. Josh has also worked with many children and families, as an advocate for safety and family restoration within the home. Josh enjoys providing counsel to unique and diverse populations, whether that be in the form of couples, college students or adults.
Josh has a policy that is open to working with all people within his scope of practice, training and ethical guidelines. Josh believes all people are valuable and should be treated with respect and dignity.
Josh is passionate about guiding adults and teenagers to become the best version of themselves, allowing them to take control of their life. Over the years, Josh has learned to listen closely and to seek out unique perspectives and life lessons from others.
Because everyone has a story that matters, Josh primarily uses Narrative Therapy. Josh also carries a trauma informed lens since disturbing lived experiences can negatively impact almost every area of life. Josh is trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy. Additionally, Josh collectively incorporates Motivational Interviewing, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy and Reality Therapy into treatment.
When Josh isn’t in the therapy room, you can find him: with his wife, enjoying the outdoors, staying active, eating good food, listening to music and connecting with people through laughter and thoughtful conversations.
